Kathleen “Kathy” DeLacy is a Partner in Reger Rizzo & Darnall LLP’s Wilmington, Delaware office and a member of the Firm’s Wills, Trusts & Estates, Business Succession Planning, and Real Estate practice groups. For more than 25 years, Kathy has represented businesses and individuals throughout Delaware. She divides her time between the Firm’s Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach offices to serve clients statewide. Kathy has extensive experience in estate planning, estate and trust administration, probate, and elder law. She advises clients on wills, trusts, guardianships, asset protection, and long-term care planning, including Medicaid and veterans’ benefits. She also has significant experience addressing estate planning issues affecting same-sex couples and handled Delaware’s first same-sex adoption case, which established precedent in the state. Kathy also established the Firm’s Delaware Real Estate Closing Practice. She assists clients with residential and commercial real estate transactions, including purchases, refinancings, and 1031 exchanges, with a particular focus on commercial real estate. Her work includes reviewing and preparing contracts and closing documents and addressing mortgage, title, and survey issues. Drawing on her experience across estate planning, business, and real estate matters, Kathy provides clients with a practical, cross-disciplinary approach to their transactions. Kathy is a certified mediator in matters involving estates and will contests, guardianships, family law, and related disputes. She is also a frequent lecturer on estate planning, estate administration, guardianships, elder law, and Medicaid planning. Active in the Delaware legal and professional community, Kathy is a Past President of the Southern Delaware Estate Planning Council and continues to serve on its Board of Directors. She is also a Past Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Delaware State Bar Association. Kathy regularly gives back to the community through educational programs and pro bono service. She presents quarterly seminars at the Newark Senior Center on estate planning, estate administration, guardianships, elder law, Medicaid planning, and related topics. She also provides pro bono consultations at senior centers throughout Delaware and is an approved instructor for The Money School, presenting educational programs at libraries across the state. Kathy also serves as Chair of the Finance Committee for Atonement Methodist Church. Kathy is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the State of Delaware. She graduated magna cum laude from Widener University in 1995 and earned her J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 2000.
